Fear

Fear can be a confusing emotion that sometimes you can’t control. When I got into a car accident, after direct impact I wasn’t in any pain, I was just very scared. My adrenaline was rushing causing me not to feel the pain of my broken hip socket, but I started seeing stars which made me freak out in fear. I didn’t know what was going to happen next but I took many deep breaths and told myself I’m alive, and I’m going to be okay. I was rushed to the hospital where I underwent scans and many medical tests. After I got out and I was cleared to go to a hospital room, my mother arrived. She was so freaked out she ended up having a very bad panic attack and had to leave the room. I told her I’m going to be okay and not to worry but it didn’t seem to help. The fear that she almost lost her son overwhelmed her and she couldn’t deal with it anymore. I then stayed in the hospital through the weekend, and that Monday I had my surgery. I was very, very nervous going into the operating room to have surgery on my hip. I pushed through, let the professionals do what they do best, and was confident they would fix me up correctly.

I overcame all that fear after surgery when I was cleared to go home. A week later, I was up walking with the assistance of my walker. I remember that fear and I’m now letting it fuel me in my recovery process. I believe you can use fear to your advantage and make it a stepping stone to success.
